Funding Element without Intensive Support
Please Note: To receive funding a school must undergo a Reading Provision Audit and meet the eligibility criteria as stipulated below.
We recognise that purchasing and sustaining a validated systematic synthetic phonics (SSP) programme can place significant pressure on school budgets. To support this, the English Hub can contribute up to £6,000 towards the cost of high-quality resources, staff training, and decodable books that align with a DfE-validated phonics programmes.
While we encourage schools to match fund their grant where possible, however we understand this is not always feasible and the requirement to match fund may be lifted if a school can demonstrate financial hardship or meets at least two of the following criteria:
-
Phonics Screening Check outcomes below the most recently published national average
-
An Ofsted judgement of Requires Improvement or Inadequate
-
A higher-than-average percentage of pupils eligible for the Pupil Premium
